‘Survivor’ Hall of Fame 2013 Post Mortem

by

gordonGah! I apologize for this taking so long, but between the holidays and some other events, there’s been a lot of life going on.

I’d like to congratulate Kim Spradlin, John Cochran, and Jonny Fairplay for their well-deserved inductions. And, I definitely want to thank everyone who made this year’s induction so successful. That includes all of the executive committee voters, my vote counting team, the good folks at CBS, and anyone who took the time to send in a vote.

So, now that we’ve all had a chance to put some space between ourselves and this year’s elections, let’s field some questions.

Should there be a waiting list for new Survivors like the MLB Hall of Fame?
This is a tricky one for me. I think recent inductees such as Cochran and Kim both definitely deserve their places in the “Survivor” Hall of Fame. That being said, I’d love to see some classic icons such as Jerri Manthey, Rupert Boneham, and Rudy Boesch get their due. It feels wrong to try to sway the vote in any direction, but isn’t it also the responsibility of a Hall of Fame to educate newer fans? I’m torn on this one.

Who had the best ballot?
This guy.

Who had the funniest Ballot?
This guy.

Are there too many inductees?
We’re getting close to a tipping point with the amount of inductees. If the Hall of Fame returns next year, I have a plan to address this concern.

Are the Executive Ballots too powerful?
I think the decision to count non votes (Hatch, Lusth, etc.) as votes really helped even out the Executive side. A perfect example of this is Coach, who was tied for the second most Executive votes, but didn’t have the fan support to get in.

What were the results of the fans’ votes?
1. Kim Spradlin
2. Jonny Fairplay
3. Jerri Manthey
4. John Cochran
5. Todd Herzog
6. Yul Kwon
7. Malcolm Freberg
8. Benjamin “Coach” Wade
9. Colby Donaldson
10. Jonathan Penner

Did the haters get you down?
In mid-November my work wife asked how the Hall of Fame was going. I told him, “Well, most people enjoy it. Some people like it too much, and some people passionately hate it.”

He laughed and said, “Sounds like pretty much everything on the Internet.”

Yup, that about sums it up.

So, to everyone who has read this far, thanks for liking it, loving it, or hating it as much as you do.

Even More Whatnot…

Please don’t stop doing the HoF Gordon!! Why is that even crossing your mind?

How can there be too many inductees? The runner-ups in every vote so far – Rupert Boneham, Todd Herzog, Colby Donaldson, Coach, Yul Kwon, Stephenie LaGrossa, Jerri Manthey, Malcolm Freberg, and Jonathan Penner – deserve to be in eventually and it’ll take at least 3 more years just for them. That’s not even counting other deserving candidates like Courtney Yates, James Clement, Sugar, and Yau-Man. Maybe once the show ends when no more new contestants are being generated, you should adopt a baseball style system, but for the next few years, 3 a year doesn’t compromise quality at all.
