Steve Helling – People Magazine

Steve Helling is a senior writer at People Magazine and the host of “Murder Made Me Famous” on the Reelz Channel. He’s also a “Survivor” superfan who watched the premiere in 2000 and has never missed an episode. Since 2004, he has covered “Survivor” for People Magazine and people.com, interviewing more than 300 contestants – including a jailhouse interview with Richard Hatch in 2007. When he’s not covering “Survivor” for work, he’s introducing new seasons to his six children or developing “Survivor” knockoff challenges for his son’s cub scout pack.

Tina Wesson – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): It’s a travesty that Tina isn’t already in the “Survivor” Hall of Fame. As the game’s first female winner, she showed that you could pleasantly smile at people as you stabbed them in the back. Tina first played “Survivor” when it was a cultural phenomenon, beating “Friends” in the ratings and drawing more than 32 million weekly viewers. Yes, Tina’s legacy may have been slightly tarnished after her last-place finish in “All-Stars.” (I blame Jenna Lewis.) But her final four showing in “Blood vs. Water” shows that she’s still a force to be reckoned with after all these years.

Jerri Manthey – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”): She was “Survivor’s” first – and best – villainess. From the moment she accused Kel of smuggling beef jerky, Jerri became the most hated woman in America, a role that she parlayed into 15 years of television appearances. The irony was that Jerri didn’t play a villainous game: she remained loyal to her alliance until the end. Sure, she wasn’t a morning person, but her bitchiness was tame compared to later villains. After being booed off the stage during “All Stars,” it seemed that we might have seen the last of Jerri – but she returned to “Heroes vs. Villains” and proved that she actually could be a serious threat in this game.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): No, he wasn’t a strategist. No, wasn’t a physical threat, even though he did win an individual immunity. And he didn’t play a social game. But Rudy Boesch was 72 years old when he played the game that has destroyed people a third of his age. What’s more, he almost won it. Without his blunder during the last immunity challenge, he probably could have beaten either Rich or Kelly. Now nearing 90 years old, Rudy will never play the game again, but his contribution to “Survivor” will never be forgotten.

Drusilla Moorhouse – BuzzFeed

Drusilla Moorhouse is a Copy Editor for BuzzFeed and has covered “Survivor” for E! Online, Zap2it and TV.com. A fanatic of the “Eco Challenge” producer Mark Burnett’s O.G. reality competition, Dru carried a torch for “Survivor” even before the first pixelated images of Richard Hatch hit the airwaves.

Tyson Apostol – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): The last time I cast my HOF ballot for Tyson, I slammed his social game — but that was before “Blood vs. Water.” For Tyson, the third time was the charm — and he sure charmed that jury! Even though he was responsible for most of their ousters and virtually kicked Katie’s ass on her way out (with that white rock), they gave him a million bucks.

Denise Stapley – (“Survivor: Philippines): This tenacious triathlete had a seat at every single Tribal Council in her season and still walked away with the title of Sole Survivor. (And really, she deserved a bonus for babysitting Abi.)

Jonathan Penner – (“Survivor: Cook Islands,”  “Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites,” and “Survivor: Philippines”): Penner sounds exactly like Alan Alda, and in a battle of wits he might even best Hawkeye Pierce himself. In fact, Penner exudes so much confidence and charisma that it wasn’t until I sat down to defend my nomination that it dawned on me: He’s not really the best player, is he? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Mara Reinstein – US Weekly

Mara Reinstein is the movie critic for Us Weekly magazine. But thanks to her unofficial title as Resident “Survivor” Fanatic, she has somehow finagled her way into 12 (!) “Survivor” location visits since 2004.

Note: Mara chose to only submit two votes this year.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): Let’s salute the man who was on the wrong side of 70 when he competed back in the very first season. He didn’t have the benefit of crafty deal-making rewards or cozy comforts. He just sucked it up and endured it. Plus, his strategy was pretty good and he had to look at a naked Richard Hatch for almost 39 days.

Rupert Boneham – (“Survivor: Pearl Islands,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): Yes, his game-play got progressively worse. Yes, he made a huge mistake in swapping places with his wife in “Blood vs. Water.” Yes, that hippie-dippie, tye-dye schtick is more worn out than a pair of used Birkenstocks. Wait, where was I going with this? Oh, right: He deserves the honors just for the being the ultimate endearing pirate back in Pearl Islands. And he persevered through “Heroes vs. Villains” with a broken toe. Years from now, even casual fans will remember Rupert. Can’t say the same for, say, purple Kelly.

Dalton Ross – Entertainment Weekly

Dalton Ross is the Assistant Managing Editor of Entertainment Weekly. He may have written about this show once or twice over the past 15 years.

Tony Vlachos – (“Survivor: Cagayan”): He was far from the perfect player in Cagayan,” but we had never seen someone play “Survivor” that aggressive before until Tony Vlachos came around. Changing up votes, repeatedly voting against his own alliance, and then somehow getting them to fall back into line after; the fact that someone could play the game so differently in season 28 (and win) is pretty remarkable. I still don’t quite understand how Tony did it, but I totally respect it. And he managed to do it all while hiding out in his spy shack and busting out llama impressions for good measure. If you don’t think Tony deserves this honor, go back and watch Spencer’s final Tribal Council speech. If a self-proclaimed gamebot like Spencer can have that much esteem for Tony’s game, than so should we.

J.T. Thomas – (“Survivor: Tocantins” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”): Some people vote for “characters” or people they simply like on their Hall of Fame ballot, and that’s totally fine seeing as how everyone has a different definition of what constitutes a worthy entrant. For me, however, it’s people that came on and flat-out dominated — the Kim Spradlins and Tom Westmans of the world. They’re both in, so why isn’t J.T.? He was just as dominant in Tocantins,” getting people in the opposite majority alliance after the merge to fall head over heels in love with him. He was devastatingly effective in all three aspects of the game — strategic, social, physical. Don’t believe me? Just ask Fishbach, whom he skunked in the finals. Sure, J.T. made a terrible move in Heroes vs. Villains in giving a hidden immunity idol to someone on the opposite tribe, but it was a big swing-for-the-fences play. You have to respect that fact that he had the cojones to try it. Bottom line: He may not be flashy, but J.T. gave one of the best first season performances in “Survivor” history. Shouldn’t that be recognized?

Brian Heidik – (“Survivor: Thailand”): If there is some sort of soft porn hall of fame, then hopefully Heidik is already in it. But here is another HOF in which he deserves entry. Look, Heidik is a shady dude and his season was terrible. So naturally you want to dismiss him and instead vote in someone that has appeared on this show three or four times and is a hell of a lot more likable. I get that. But again, I am voting on gameplay, and the guy ran Thailand” from coast-to-coast. He orchestrated all the votes. He won all the important challenges. He was always in control.  Athletes are judged solely for their performance on the field in terms of Hall of Fame admission, and I use that same criteria for players in the game of Survivor.” Heidik dominated, so should be in. We may not like it, but sometimes you have to go with your head instead of your heart. (Especially when, like me, you have no heart.)

Tom Santilli – Examiner.com

Tom Santilli is the “Survivor Examiner,” having covered “Survivor” for Examiner.com and TheTVKing.com since 2009 and having been a rabid fan since the very beginning.  He is also a film critic and appears weekly on the syndicated TV show “Movie Show Plus.”  (follow him on Twitter, @tomsantilli and at TomSantilli.com).  He claims to own his own “Medallion of Power” that gives him a slight advantage in writing “Survivor” recaps.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): Now that there are 14 members of the “Survivor” Hall of Fame, a simple eyeball test will reveal to you who is missing. My first two picks are faces that are iconic to the game, and glaring omissions from the Hall. First up, above anyone else, is Rudy. This isn’t just a sentimental vote, although that’s part of it. He was also one of the most entertaining and inspirational contestants ever. His unexpected friendship with Richard Hatch encapsulated the essence of “Survivor,” showing that people from all walks of life can live together and even become friends within the unique framework of the game. Let’s not forget that he was one hand-slip away from winning the first-ever “Survivor” too. When contestants wised up by the time of “All-Stars,” Rudy was voted off early because every other person knew they had no shot against him, were he to stay. Heck, the dude walked away from a roll-over car accident a few years back without a scratch. He’s invincible. He’s incredible. He’s Rudy. And he should be a Hall of Famer.

Rupert Boneham – (“Survivor: Pearl Islands,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): This dude is one of only two players to have played the game four times. He is another iconic face of the game and one of the most popular ever to play. While he isn’t quite deserving to make the Hall based on his strategic skills, there are many other reasons why certain players should be inducted. Hundreds have now played the game, but how many could you identify by just their voice? Rupert is a guy no one will ever forget and he deserves a spot.

Brian Heidik – (“Survivor: Thailand”): It’s time for my annual push for Brian Heidik, who to me, is the sole remaining “first-ballot”-worthy contestant still deserving inclusion…an upper echelon player and the one guy who needs to be in the “Survivor” Hall of Fame. I voted for him the past few years and I will continue doing so until others take notice…Brian is unlike any other Sole Survivor for many important reasons. At the time that he won, nobody thought that a “bad guy” could ever win “Survivor” again after Richard Hatch. Brian to this day is the only true “villain,” playing a villainous game, to have won it all. Brian played masterfully, despite back-stabbing and lying his way to the prize. He was a thinker, but he also won several individual immunity challenges along the way. Others (like, say, Kim Spradlin) have made “Survivor” look easy, but he was the first. Like him or not, admit it or not, he was the blueprint for every strategic player since. The “Survivor” HOF will never be complete until it includes the likes of Brian Heidik.

Josh Wigler – Parade

Josh Wigler is a writer, editor and podcaster who has been published by MTV News, New York Magazine, Comic Book Resources, Digital Trends and more. He is the co-author of “The Evolution of Strategy: 30 Seasons of Survivor,” an audiobook chronicling the reality TV show’s transformation, and one of the hosts of “Post Show Recaps,” a podcast about film and television.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): Wait, Rudy’s not already in the Hall of Fame? Seriously? How is that even possible? To quote the man himself, “I dunno.” Someone’s hand must’ve slipped at the switch. Anyway, Rudy is as synonymous with “Survivor” as almost anyone, the franchise’s original fan-favorite, the elder statesman of the series. Respect where it’s due.

Tina Wesson – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): The second winner in “Survivor” history, Tina went from million-dollar Outback champion to the first boot on “All-Stars,” only to return almost twenty full seasons later, as competitive as ever, on “Blood vs Water.” She’s a terrific and historic player who absolutely warrants a HOF nod.

Jerri Manthey – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”): I could make the case for Colby Donaldson or Rupert Boneham, but nope. Instead, let’s go with Colby’s original nemesis and Rupert’s fellow Saboga. (The third Saboga on my list! Man, great tribe. Apologies to Jenna Lewis.) She’s the original Black Widow of “Survivor,” so loathed that she was booed off the stage at the “All-Stars” reunion, only to return 12 seasons later to wrap up one of the most satisfying character arcs of any “Survivor” ever. For legacy reasons alone, Jerri gets my last spot. Also, she promised me tortillas and chocolate if I voted for her.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): When the tribe was scrambling to make a shelter to sleep above the flea-infested beach and and find water to boil and drink in order to survive the elements, the oldest contestant ever, Rudy, dug a 6-foot trench in the beach, lined it with palm leaves, and slept in it. Then he proceeded to drink the unfiltered, un-boiled water from a tiny stream. “I used to drink water with dead bodies floating in it…this stuff is fine.” What more do I need to say?

Lex van den Berghe – (“Survivor: Africa” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): Lex was a major factor in helping me win “Survivor: Africa”…not so true in “All-Stars.” We aligned on Day 1 and stayed true for the remaining 38 days. Lex was made to be a villain, but he was just playing aggressive and performed well in challenges. In my mind Lex used the concept of “Voting Blocks”…but we just called it “voting, with a side order of trusted alliance.”

Tina Wesson – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”):  One of the few players that has embraced all aspects of the game and performed well (minus “All-Stars”…but the former winners had no chance). A strategic manipulative force masked in a cute, happy, athletic body. She played Old School and New School and with family members. And she did well!

Jesse Jensen has been with “Survivor” since 2000 working his way up from Art Department to Art Director to Producer. His creativity allows for some of the most visually stunning Tribal Councils that set the stage for those great dramatic moments that we love so much.

Jesse Jensen’s 2015 Hall of Fame Ballot

Benjamin “Coach” Wade – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: South Pacific”): Here I go again, but I am going to keep throwing his name out there until he gets a spot in the Hall of Fame. I love this guy, so as per last year he is my top pick. The “Dragon Slayer”  has always given us amazing drama and funny moments that keep us all entertained throughout all his seasons. Anyone that has been such a dynamic character on three seasons of the show deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Tyson Apostol – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): Tyson has always kept us laughing, I’d say for me he has been the most amusing player of all time, so many funny moments. He has such a great energy about him and as a three-time competitor and eventual winner of the show, I can’t see how he can’t make the Hall of Fame.

Stephenie LaGrossa – (“Survivor: Palau,” “Survivor: Guatemala,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”):  I am going to nominate Stephanie yet again this year. She has played the game three times and in her first season in Palau she was an extremely popular character and she showed us what a strong player she was both physically and mentally. She was so good that we brought her straight back the very next season to compete in Guatemala where she finished in second place. In “Heroes vs. Villains” she played a tough game, but it just didn’t work out for her that time around. In my opinion she is one the most well rounded and popular players we have seen on the show.

Rudy Boesch – (“Survivor: Borneo” and “Survivor: All-Stars”): A classic, the original funny man. He knew who he was from the get-go and made no bones about it.  He made the first season very entertaining!

Colby Donaldson – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”): Great competitor and athlete.   One of the reasons I actually applied to be on the show. ( I wanted to see if I could compete with/beat him. LOL)

Tyson Apostol – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”):  Even though his bonehead-move in “Heroes vs. Villains” cost me my game. Tyson’s definitely come full-circle.  At first I really didn’t understand his sense of humor from watching him on TV but getting to know him in person if anyone can appreciate it, I can.  He’s very smart and strategic and I consider him a friend outside of the game as well. Great player.

John Cochran’s 2015 Hall of Fame Ballot

Benjamin “Coach” Wade – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: South Pacific”): I don’t think I’m being hyperbolic when I say Coach is the greatest reality TV character of all time.  Before the “The Most Interesting Man in the World” ad campaign or those now-tired Chuck Norris jokes, there was Coach: a man who, if you believe him, has climbed every mountain, kayaked every river, and slain every dragon.  Even more remarkable, though, is the transformation “Survivor” viewers got to witness across Coach’s three seasons: from larger-than-life Renaissance man, to humbled and emotionally-vulnerable everyman, to legitimate “Survivor” competitor and huge threat to win.

Jerri Manthey – (“Survivor: The Australian Outback,” “Survivor: All-Stars,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains”): It’s bizarre to go to back to Season 2 and see what all the fuss was about.  I mean, she complained about how rice was prepared, and maybe talked a little too much about chocolate.  However quaint it seems now, though, 2001 was a very different time, and that behavior qualified Jerri to become reality TV’s first villainess.  But, like Coach, what makes Jerri truly special is her three-season arc.  Who else in “Survivor” history has gone from literally being booed offstage to, in her last season, emerging as America’s sweetheart?  Nobody, that’s who!

Todd Herzog – (“Survivor: China”):  Todd may not have the sweeping, multi-season mythologies of my other two nominees, but that does nothing to diminish his impact on the franchise.  “Survivor: China” was jam-packed with some of the series’ biggest players and characters (James, Amanda, Courtney, Peih-Gee, Jean-Robert, the list goes on and on), making the season’s eventual winner — the diminutive, silver-tongued superfan — all the more satisfying.  Todd’s also responsible for perhaps the single greatest Final Tribal Council performance ever, in which he deftly walks the tightrope between self-promotion and jury-pandering.  It should be required viewing for anyone who even thinks about applying for “Survivor.”

Matt Van Wagenen’s 2015 Hall of Fame Ballot

Tony Vlachos – (“Survivor: Cagayan”):  I have a feeling that even if Tony doesn’t get enough votes, he’ll still find a way to talk himself into the Hall of Fame.  He’s just that kind of guy.  Tony is a force of nature that played the game with an uncanny ability to swing from alliance to alliance while managing not to get voted out.  His silver tongue and nose for idols made him an absolutely devastating player.  It is rare that someone plays with such unbridled joy and energy but he did it…every day.  I’d take a guy like Tony on every season.  Unfortunately (or fortunately) he’s one in a million.

Benjamin “Coach” Wade – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: South Pacific”): I’ve said it before, if there were “Dragonslayer” action figures I’d buy one.  Whether he’s in a challenge, planning someone’s demise or simply boiling beans, he’s completely entertaining.  He was fascinating in “Tocantins”, human in “Heroes vs. Villains” and a force to be reckoned with in “South Pacific.”  Although he came up short at the end of the game, he deserved his spot in the final three and has to be considered one of the best runner-ups ever.  Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that he is one of the most iconic characters to ever put on a buff.

Tyson Apostol – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): Cocky (expletive deleted) rarely win “Survivor.”  That might be why Tyson didn’t win his first time out.  And it’s most likely why he didn’t win his second time either.  But by the time he came out and played a third time he was a different person.  Yes, he was still funny, cocky, and sarcastic.  But he also had a heart.  Maybe it was being older, maybe it was being out there with his girlfriend, but either way he learned to use that bold personality for good..and for winning the game.  He’s a master of the interview, a dominant challenge competitor, and an unbelievably sly strategist.  And most importantly, he’s just a “neat lady.”

‘Survivor’ Castaway Abi-Maria: ‘Being Real on ‘Survivor’ Is Not a Great Strategy’

December 10, 2015

"Survivor: Second Chance" (CBS)

Quick Note: We’re going to be bringing you all kinds of “Survivor” fun this season including episode recaps, exit interviews, and Power Rankings with Jenn Brown and Max Dawson. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@gordonholmes) for up-to-the-minute news and info.

What do Andrew Savage, Ciera Eastin, and Jeff Varner have in common?

They all used the word “loyal” to describe Abi-Maria Gomes in their exit interview.

That’s right, the same Abi-Maria who seemed to bounce from alliance to alliance, calling out her partners in public fashion, and saying she didn’t know who she was going to vote with at Tribal is super loyal.

I spoke with the “Brazilian Dragon” the morning after her elimination and asked her about her wild game, last night’s odd vote, and Joe’s golden locks.,,

Abi-Maria Gomes: Good morning, Gordon!
Gordon Holmes: Good morning, Abi. I hear you’re well caffeinated.
Gomes: I’m trying. I’m getting there. I literally just got out of bed.
Holmes: Then let’s do this. You voted for Keith while everyone else voted for you or Tasha. What happened there?
Gomes: I thought I was sitting right in the middle. I thought I was exactly in the spot that Spencer is in right now. Just being able to go with Jeremy and Tasha or Wentworth and Keith. I thought I was sitting pretty. The only reason I voted for Keith, was last week Kimmi mentioned that she wanted to do a woman-strong alliance. And I was on board. It was my whole reason to vote for Keith was to empower the women and send a message that a woman can be strong. That’d give us the numbers.
Holmes: When Tasha asked to speak to Jeremy alone…that would raise some red flags with me.
Gomes: Right! Yeah. It’s like, “Hello, people, we’re the final seven!” I don’t want to curse…
Holmes: Feel free to curse.
Gomes: I was like, “What the (expletive deleted). Really, Tasha?! Really?!” That’s how I felt. So much happened and honestly at that point we shot from May to June and everything seems like a dream at this point. Everything is so blurry in my memory. In “Survivor” world people love to see me as a dingle berry. That little piece of (expletive deleted) that’s just hanging.
Holmes: (Laughs) You never know where these interviews are going to go.
Gomes: (Laughs)

Holmes: But that brings up an interesting point. When I asked about you in exit interviews, your edit had you coming off as wildly erratic, but the word that came up often from your peers was “loyal.”
Gomes: I was extremely loyal. Gordon, I was so loyal. If you weren’t waking up the Brazilian dragon, I was with you all the way.
Holmes: Then why do people feel the need to wake the dragon…
Gomes:  I don’t…
Holmes: And then give her coffee?
Gomes: (Laughs) I believe they had just watched my last season. I do think that people were doing their homework. They had probably just watched “Survivor: Philippines.” And I don’t know if they were aware of the wording that was used towards me. Especially by Peih-Gee…and Wiglesworth. They were using such accurate words that were used against me in the Philippines. Call it paranoia, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it was. There were so many similarities. I had Denise dreams, flashbacks, 2.0. It’s like, “Denise is here! She came back to haunt me! I see her in the body of a dementor! What the heck?!”

Holmes: If the Keith vote had gone your way last night, what was your plan for the rest of the game?
Gomes: I was hoping to go to the end with Kimmi and Tasha.
Holmes: Did you think the jurors wouldn’t appreciate the game they were playing?
Gomes: I was playing my game moment by moment. I knew that I had a lot to patch up with the jury. I was hoping to be nourished after having the meal prior to the jury. You get that breakfast. I was hoping to have a glass of champagne and a nice breakfast and get to the final Tribal and tell my story. I was a target since day one and I managed to get through the swaps and the merge. And after all that target on my back, I felt like the move I made at Angkor was powerful by saying good-bye to Ta Keo. I was on the bottom and approached Tasha and Savage and started a new alliance. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the advantage of building bonds with the Bayon people because I was stuck in the ghetto. I didn’t get to meet a bunch of those people. At the merge I was trying to understand the relationship they had. I was trying my best. But, apparently people seem to not like me on “Survivor.”
Holmes: That’s one of the amazing things about you. On the show you’re the dragon and in real life you’re delightful and very personable.
Gomes: It’s just so easy to throw me under the bus. I think that when it comes to the social experiment that people identify with whatever is easier to identify with. And I’m not the best example of someone people would identify with. We come from such different walks of life. But, I’m real. And being real on “Survivor” is not a great strategy.

Holmes: So…the Poopy Pants.
Gomes: Mr. Fishbach. Debbie Downer.
Holmes: How poopy were these pants?
Gomes: They were so poopy. Anybody who was there, you’d think that you’re going to get infected. My mentality was; we’re sharing this tiny little shelter, it’s raining, and we’re stuck with poopy pants. I got all hypochondriac for a second there. This guy keeps getting out and (expletive deleted) all around the shelter. Marking his territory. I don’t want this guy to get close to me. I don’t want to be Poopy Pants 2.0. So, I wanted distance. I was serious. I’m not getting sick here, dude. Poopy Pants, go!
Holmes: That why people come here for the hard questions that most people are afraid to ask.
Gomes: (Laughs)

Holmes: Alright, word association time. Let’s start with Vytas.
Gomes: What did Shirin call him? Downward puppy dog?
Holmes: Shirin?
Gomes: Cry me a river.
Holmes: Kimmi?
Gomes: Mom.
Holmes: Wentworth?
Gomes: Idols.
Holmes: Wiglesworth?
Gomes: Hypocrite.
Holmes: Jeff Varner?
Gomes: Jeff Varner, you little bitch.
Holmes: (Laughs) Woo?
Gomes: Woo! Woo! The Woo train! You voted for me twice!
Holmes: Jeremy?
Gomes: I wouldn’t date you either, Scorpio.
Holmes: Tasha?
Gomes: She should have died last night. Oh, God. That sounds so mean. Swimming lessons.
Holmes: Savage?
Gomes: Grow up.
Holmes: Stephen?
Gomes: Poopy pants! That’s the first thing that came to mind.
Holmes: That’s the goal. Terry Dietz?
Gomes: Dad. Astrology, star, airplane.
Holmes: Joe?
Gomes: Moldy clown.
Holmes: Kass?
Gomes: Kassanova!
Holmes: Ciera?
Gomes: You can borrow my clothes any time, sister.
Holmes: Keith?
Gomes: Golly!
Holmes: Spencer?
Gomes: I’m not really a fan of Spencer right now. Spencer can go die in a fire.
Holmes: Let’s finish with Peih-Gee.
Gomes: Die in a fire as well. I’ve tried to apologize to that chick so many times and she continues to hate on me on social media. I just don’t have time for it. Go away.

Holmes: You made fun of Joe’s hair…
Gomes: (Laughs) Come on, Gordon! You’re being so sensitive about his moldy, clown hair! Please. We actually have similar hair, but I’m not a clown.
Holmes: I heard that you got some heat on social media due to your comments.
Gomes: Isn’t that insane? I think that half of the hormonal teenage girls are sensitive about Joe’s hair. So, hopefully when he cuts his goldilocks I can get a piece of it and put it in a zip-lock bag and call a truce. But it’s a very sensitive subject.
Holmes: I made a joke about being the one to put your bracelet in Peih-Gee’s bag.
Gomes: (Laughs)
Holmes: And I got comments like, “You die and you rot in hell, Gordon Holmes!”
Gomes: Oh my God. It’s a joke people! People love to hate me. Welcome to my world.

Last Week: Family members were greeted and then some of them eated*, a female alliance was pitched and then possibly ditched, and Joey Amazing passed out and then was cast out.

*Not a word.

39 Days, 20 People, 1 “Survivor” Blog…

Let’s take a look at the tribe as it currently stands…

The Orkun Tribe (wearing orange)
Abi – Philippines
Jeremy – San Juan del Sur
Keith – San Juan del Sur
Kelley W. – San Juan del Sur
Kimmi – The Australian Outback
Spencer – Cagayan
Tasha – Cagayan

The evening’s fun starts off back at Orkun Beach after Tribal. Abi doesn’t feel bad about Joe going home because, “Payback is a bitch.” Feel free to write your own joke.

Everyone else is psyched because they all now have a chance at winning immunity. Really, Kimmi?

They go over the night’s votes, and Tasha realizes that Keith voted for her. This does not please her. I probably wouldn’t be giddy about it either.

The next morning, the San Juan del Surians point out that all three of them made the final seven. Yeah, well…half the Australians are there too.

Later, Jeremy and Spencer are having serious buyer’s remorse now that Joe is gone. I feel the same way at breakfast when I order something sweet like pancakes, but then I see someone else order an omelet. Every time. Their regret is more focused on the possibility of a female alliance.

Reward Challenge Time: The players will run through an obstacle course while hooked to a rope. They’ll then use sandbags to knock over a series of blocks. The first person to knock off all their blocks will be taken to a Cambodian temple and will enjoy food and a sleepover.

Fun Fact: Keith won this challenge in San Juan del Sur.

We start off and there’s not much to explain except for obstacle navigatin’. Keith is the first one to the sandbags. He’s followed by Spencer, Tasha, and Jeremy.

Jeremy and Spence have trouble with their slack allowance, but it doesn’t matter because Keith plows through the blocks to win reward.

THIS IS KEITH’S ISLAND!

Keith is allowed to take two people with him. He chooses Kelley because she chose his wife to come to camp last week. He also chooses Spencer for no real reason.

While trying to explain why he picked Spencer, we learn that Keith doesn’t know Tasha’s name. That’d be me on “Survivor.” I’m the worst. No joke, my wife and I have a code where I’ll squeeze her hand quickly three times if I need her to give me someone’s name.

Look on the bright side, Tasha. If he doesn’t know your name, he can’t vote for you. Well…he can’t vote for you again.

Back at camp, Kimmi makes the point that Keith is the new Golden Boy and he needs to go. He’s more like a Golden River Boy. Apparently that’s a chewing tobacco. Yes, I had to use Google for that joke.

At the reward, Keith points out that the temple looks like somewhere Indiana Jones has been. Fortune and glory, Keith.

The trio is blessed and then treated to an elegant Cambodian dance. Afterward, they sit down to a delicious meal. Spencer, Kelley, and Keith all say they’re cool being the final three together. Well, what are you supposed to say?

Keith wants to get rid of Jeremy first. However, Spencer wants to target Tasha. Brains tribe explodes!

They decide to bring Abi in as a fourth. What could possibly go wrong?

At Orkun, Tasha asks Abi if she can chat with Jeremy alone. Abi says it’s cool, but her face, body language and death glare say otherwise.

Abi goes off, and Tasha and Jeremy immediately discuss getting rid of her. Well, I guess Abi was totally justified with her death glare.

Immunity Challenge Time: The players will race down an obstacle course that is floating in the water. When they get to the end they’ll retrieve a key. They’ll then return to the beach and unlock five puzzle pieces. The first person to complete the puzzle wins immunity.

Fun Fact: This puzzle was one of the choices in the first challenge in “World’s Apart.” But, nobody chose it.

Another Fun Fact: Actually, Parvati Shallow chose it in the press challenge. It did not end well for her.

We start off and Jeremy and Spencer jump out to a lead. However, Spencer wipes out and Jeremy takes over. They go back and forth with Jeremy getting to the puzzle first. Spencer is right behind him. He manages to figure out the puzzle in less than fifteen seconds and win it.

Note: People are saying that the puzzle was too simple. But, I watched crew members struggle with it for twenty minutes in Nicaragua.

Whoa…Tasha is having trouble out in the water. The safety crew is sent out after her. They get her up onto one of the platforms and medical is called in.

Apparently she swallowed a lot of water, but she’ll be fine. Thank goodness.

Politicking around camp has Tasha wanting her, Jeremy, Spencer, and Kimmi to vote for Abi while Keith, Kelley, Spencer, and Abi want to target Tasha.

Abi is wondering who to take to the final three. Well, she might win against doing your taxes and getting punched in the face.

Later Tasha and Jeremy lay out their plan to Spencer. Ooo…Spencer the Swing Vote.

That night at Tribal, Spencer admits that he was worried about what he missed at camp while he was at the reward.

Tasha is feeling better, but she thought she was drowning.

Spencer thinks any event in “Survivor” could cause change.

Keith says the vote will get them back to where they need to be.

Jeremy is under the impression that there are five voting blocs right now.

Tasha believes that a lot of people are keeping their options open and aren’t locking in their loyalty.

Keith is confident that his alliance will win. Spencer admires his confidence because he’s nervous.

Jeremy isn’t sure which of his alliances he should be confident in. Oh…how many alliances you got there, Jeremy?

Voting Time: Kimmi votes for Abi, Keith votes for Tasha, and the rest of the votes will have to wait till the credits.

JPro tallies and returns. We’ve got one vote for Abi, one vote for Tasha, one vote for Abi, one vote for Tasha, one vote for Abi, one vote for Keith, and the fourteenth person eliminated from “Survivor: Second Chance” and the seventh member of the jury is…Abi.

So, Abi voted for Keith while Keith and Kelley voted for Tasha. So…I’m assuming the dominant foursome must’ve had Abi on their side and convinced her they were targeting Keith.

Verdict: This season is just too crazy to predict. Not sure why Abi went when there are other big threats that you don’t want to take to the end around.

And now we’re heading into a final episode with six players and two idols still in play? Color me intrigued.

Who’s Going to Win? I’m holding out hope that Kelley can work some magic with that idol of hers, but Jeremy is lookin’ good.

Power Rankings Results: Jenn had Abi in spot six, Max had her in spot three, and I had her in spot four. The current standings are Team Jenn 130, Team Max 124, and Team Gordon 119.

Cirie Fields’ 2015 Hall of Fame Ballot

This year I did things a little different. I held a little round table of my own with some die-hard “Survivor” fans.  (Thanks Jim and Suzy!)  And here’s what we came up with…

Benjamin “Coach” Wade – (“Survivor: Tocantins,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: South Pacific”):  For his crazy, warrior-like personality. He made people respect him, even with his sometimes buzzard behavior.

Rupert Boneham – (“Survivor: Pearl Islands,” “Survivor: All Stars,” “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”): For his ability to get along with everyone and his competitiveness.

Stephenie LaGrossa – (“Survivor: Palau,” “Survivor: Guatemala,” and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains): For being one of the toughest competitors, especially when she survived losing all the other members of her tribe.

Visit the  “Survivor” Hall of Fame for executive ballots from Jeff Probst, Parvati Shallow, Rob Cesternino, and others.
